MRCA info

Some new stuff:

Robert Carter7 Austin Jr. (Robert Carter6, Clyde Bernard5, Clisbe4, Clisbe3, Archibald2, Edward Riggs1

Then there is your line:

Horace Lester7 Riggs III (Horace Lester6, Horace Lester5, John Woodson4, Samuel3, Clisby2, Edward Riggs1

For all 3 of you the line above Capt. Ed Riggs(1720-1820)  is the same:

Capt. Edward5Riggs (Samuel4, Edward3, Edward2, Edward1 (b.1590))
Clyde Bernard6 Austin III (Clyde Bernard5 Jr., Clyde Bernard4, Clisbe3, Clisbe2, Archibald1)

Robert Carter6 Austin Jr. (Robert Carter5, Clyde Bernard4, Clisbe3, Clisbe2, Archibald1)

William Luther7 Austin (William Brinks6, William Thompson5, Robert White4, William Thompson3, Clisbe2, Archibald1)
MRCA is Clisbe Sr.

John E6 Austin (E Woodrow5, Jacob E4, William3, Archibald II2, Archibald1)
MRCA is Archibald, himself.

Roy Burdine7 Riggs Jr. (Roy Burdine Sr.6,William E5, Henderson E4, Jesse Jr.3, Jesse Sr.2, Edward1)
MRCA is Edward Riggs
Roy and Robert have a 38 at marker 34. So we must conclude that Edward Riggs had the same. This is a mutation from the Ed Modal Sig. which has a 37 there.
Roy has a 17 at marker 33, which is a mutation from Ed Modal Sig. which has a 18, just like Robert.  Therefore this mutation took place at Jesse Sr. or lower.

The mutation at marker 47 for Robert... he has a 9 there. Roy has a 10 like the Ed Modal Sig. Thus the mutation has to occur below Capt. Ed.... either in Archibald or in Clisbe Sr. We will know the answer to this when John E takes the test.

Horace Lester Riggs

(Horace Lester7 Riggs III, Horace Lester6, Horace Lester5, John Woodson4, Samuel3, Clisbe2 Riggs, Edward Riggs1)

Clay Austin

Clay7,Joseph C6, Joseph C5, William4, Archibald3, Archibald2, Ed Riggs1

Nancy Lynne7 Austin (Gerald Winston6,Clisbe Emerson Jr.5, Clisbe Emerson Sr.4 Archibald3, Clisbe2, Archibald1)

Sent $268 for 67 marker Y-DNA test...
See e-mail:

John,

Thanks for agreeing.  It will cost you nothing.  I put a check in the mail.

I’m very grateful; so is Lil.  So are all the other people who have been working the Austin and Riggs Y-DNA Projects and the family trees.

You get started by going to the Family Tree DNA site and asking for:

                                  67 Marker Y-DNA test

They will correspond with you by e-mail and in the US Mail. So you have to give them some info. It would be useful if you tell them you are a descendant of Archibald Austin, Jr. and on down.

The 67 marker test should be priced at $268. If it is more, I’ll send you more.

The whole thing is done at your home by you.  A kit will arrive in the mail; it contains a stamped return envelope for the swabs.  All you do is swab your gum/cheeks a couple of times over a couple of days.

After you return the kit, in a few weeks the results will start to arrive at your e-mail.  They will give you a kit number and a password.  Then you can get details on-line. It’s easy.

I will send you the Y-DNA certificates for Lil’s two 1st cousins.  I think yours will look just like theirs.  I actually hope I’m wrong.

I’ll call again before Oct 6 to talk about a visit.  Lil’s cousin from TX, Nancy Austin Fatheree, will probably be with us.  She is excited to meet you. So are we.

John and Lil

RE: Looking for Austin Family

Dear William Austin,

My name is John Clinard.  I’m helping my wife, Lillian Austin Clinard, find her family in E TN.

We see from the phone book that there are many Austins living in Hamblen Co. today, your being one of them. Also, we know that William P. is a family given name.

My wife, Lillian Austin, is an Austin from Greene Co. TN.  She is a descendant of Archibald Austin (1767-1866) who brought the family to E. TN from Pittsylvania Co. VA. We are seeking other male Austins that descend from this Archibald.

This Archibald had a son also named Archibald, II (1801-1850), a son named Joseph (1796 - ?), a son named  William (1798-1852), and a son named Clisbe (1802-1883).  My wife descends from Clisbe. We know all about the Clisbe branch. We know little of the families of the other three sons. They possibly stayed in E. TN (Jefferson and/or Hamblen Cos.) and possibly have descendants who still live in E TN. We are hoping that you are one of these descendants.

We know that a William P Austin descended from Archibald as follows:

Archibald (1767-1866) had a son
Archibald, Jr. (1801-~1850) who had a son
William (1830-1903) who had a son
Jacob E (1883-~1946) who had a son
E Woodrow (1921-?) who lived in Hamblen Co., perhaps still alive (?) who may have a son
William P (1957? - ), and several generations lived on the Austin Farm.

Can you help us?  Is this your line?

Correspondence with E Ray

I wanted to make one other point: In regard to the DNA study in hand, all the E haplogroup Austins of White Co, who took the test,  are not descendants of John. Three are descendants of Nat; and one is a descendant of William.

So what?  That means we do not have DNA proof that John is a brother.  I have a wild but possible theory that your Elanza descends from John… and that John is not a brother. John did arrive in White co. abt. 8 years before Nat. Wonder why?

As soon as a known descendant of John takes the Y-DNA test we will know for sure.  He will most likely be E haplogroup; but he could end up I haplogroup like you showing my theory to be correct.

Of course, I have a bad track record of guesses about the White Co. Austins.

I sure am glad you are staying on top of this – your theories so far make a lot of sense and I don’t believe that BEFORE this DNA testing, anyone I know of ever thought “we” descended from anyone but from Nathaniel Austin…know what I mean?
I hope you will keep me informed on anything you come up with, I agree with what you said and it is possible that I descend from John….can’t wait to see someone from John’s side show up on the DNA Chart.  Do you keep tabs on that List?
Appreciate you!

Still TO DO

1. Go to White Co. Library and look at Anderson book
2. Atlanta for the Aurelia Austin notes
3. Write-up Wealthy for AFAOA
4. Prepare something for White Co. Austin get-together

AFAOA Newslatters

http://www.afaoa.org/newsletters.html
List of things that AFAOA should change,or look at.
1. New River - William and 1st wife Nancy had sons William and Nat. These are the two at Anderson Co.in 1802. Helen may have been Wiliam's wife... Nat's sister-in-law.
2. Thomas Johns was a person who married the daughter, Catherine, of Richard (d. 1759)
3. Richard had sons Thomas and John. John was actually listed in a n earlier version of AFAOA.
4. Thomas had a son Nathaniel. He was the SC-TN Nat.
5. Simple error where it says in1755 (Dan's death) that he had a daughter, Wealthy, who married Joseph
6. Bart Austin (1768-1841) had sons Andrew and Robert. He did not have brothers with those names.
7. The parents of Anne Reeves were George Reeves and JaneBurton.
Tracking the Andersons may well be the answer.  I need to see that reference book in the library in White Co. TN.

I would love to hire someone to search for the law suit of Nathan against his uncle John.  Don't know how to proceed.

Wouldlove to have a look at the Aurelia Austin papers.  Can I find the note between Aurelia and Janet Austin Curtis?

Need to look at the date of th White Co. reunion.  Can I make it?

Notes to remember:
I've added my new painting to the Wealthy Pruett Story:

                                                                                                          Painting by John Clinard, 2011
Below is a conceptual painting of Wealthy with Joseph Austin and Wealthy’s mother, Sarah. The year was 1760. Wealthy was 20, Joseph was 30 and Sarah was 50. Dan Pruett, Wealthy’s father, had been dead for five years. Her brother had been killed in the French & Indian War two years earlier. Joseph had just married another woman. Wealthy had recently given birth to Fanny, her first child, and had been charged with bastardy. The father was Joseph. Times were getting rough for Wealthy and Sarah.  Keep reading the story and you will discover how they survived, as well you will discover how Wealthy and Joseph’s love for each other produced problems and solutions. Meanwhile Sarah held the Pruett family together overcoming much adversity. The place was frontier Southside Virginia under British Colonial rule until 1776, the new day for America, and the beginning of Wealthy and Joseph’s life together as husband and wife.
